Restore a wallet

Lost your computer, or forgotten your password? With your 25 words you can bring your wallet back on any computer, coins and all.

Restore from your 25 words

  1. Open the COIN Wallet and choose Restore wallet from keys or mnemonic seed.

  2. Give the wallet a name and choose where to save it. The name doesn't have to match the old one. Keep Restore from seed selected.

  3. Type your 25 words, in order, with a space between each.

  4. Enter a Restore height: the block number to start scanning from. If you don't know it, enter 0.

  5. Choose a new password.

  6. Keep Start a node automatically in background (recommended) selected and press Create wallet. Your wallet scans the blockchain and your coins reappear.

Not sure? Use 0. Coin's blockchain began on 20 October 2026, so a scan from block 0 finds every payment you've ever received.

Restore from your keys

If you saved your keys instead of your seed, choose Restore from keys and fill in Account address (public), View key (private) and Spend key (private). You'll find all three in Settings > Wallet > Show seed & keys on the original wallet.

Leave the spend key blank and you get a view-only wallet instead: it shows incoming payments but can't spend.

Restore height

Your wallet finds your payments by scanning the blockchain, starting from the restore height. Set it too high and the wallet misses earlier payments, so your balance looks wrong. Set it too low and the first scan just takes a little longer. When in doubt, go lower.

To change it later, open Settings > Info, press (Change) next to the wallet restore height and enter a lower block number. The wallet then scans again from there.

Balance looks wrong after restoring?

Almost always, the restore height is higher than the block of your first payment. Change it to 0 and let the wallet scan again.

Advanced: restore with the command-line wallet

Start the command-line wallet with one of these options and follow the prompts. It asks for a name for the new wallet file, your words or keys, a password and a restore height.

--restore-deterministic-wallet

Restores from your 25 words.

--generate-from-keys NEW_WALLET_NAME

Restores from your address, view key and spend key.

--generate-from-view-key NEW_WALLET_NAME

Makes a view-only wallet from your address and view key.
