The basics
What is Coin?
Private digital cash. You can pay anyone, anywhere, and the blockchain never shows who paid whom or how much. What is COIN? »
How is Coin related to Monero?
Coin is built on the Monero v0.18 codebase and inherits its privacy design, with RandomX-v2 for mining. It runs as a completely separate network with its own genesis block, so coins and transactions on one chain mean nothing on the other.
Do I need an account?
No. There's nothing to sign up for. Your wallet lives on your own computer, and your 25 words are the only key to it.
Does it cost anything?
The COIN Wallet is free, open-source software. Each payment pays a small network fee to the miners who put it in a block.
Wallet and payments
How long does a payment take?
A payment is usually in a block within a couple of minutes, since a new block comes about every two minutes. The person you paid can spend it after 10 blocks, about 20 minutes.
Why is part of my balance locked?
New coins wait 10 blocks before they can be spent, and that includes the change from your own payments. Mined coins wait 60 blocks. Give it a little time and they unlock by themselves. More »
What if I lose my 25 words?
If you still have the wallet and its password, write the words down again now: Settings > Wallet > Show seed & keys. If the seed and the wallet are both gone, the coins can't be recovered. Nobody can reset a Coin wallet.
I forgot my wallet password
Restore the wallet from your 25 words and choose a new password. Your coins come back with it. How to restore »
Can I prove that I paid someone?
Yes. The wallet can make a payment proof for any payment you sent. The recipient, or anyone else, checks it in their own wallet, and it reveals only that one payment. How »
Can someone see my balance without being able to spend it?
Yes, if you choose to share it. Give them your address and view key and they can open a view-only wallet that shows incoming payments. A view-only wallet can't spend. View keys »
Privacy
Can anyone see my payments?
Not on the blockchain. Every payment hides the sender, the receiver and the amount, and your address never appears on the chain. Only you and the person you pay know the details.
Can I turn privacy off?
No. Every payment on Coin is private, for everyone. That's what keeps your payments from standing out. Why »
Does Coin hide my IP address?
The blockchain never records IP addresses. When your node sends a payment, Dandelion++ passes it through a few random nodes before it spreads, which makes the starting point hard to pin down.
For stronger network privacy, run your node or wallet over Tor.
Mining
How do I mine?
Open Advanced > Mining in the COIN Wallet, choose how many CPU threads to use and press Start mining. Mining guide »
Why mine with a CPU instead of a GPU?
RandomX is built to run best on general-purpose processors. That keeps mining open to people with ordinary computers and spreads it across many independent miners instead of a few large farms.
Do I need a mining pool?
No. The wallet mines solo: when your computer finds a block, the whole reward goes straight to your wallet. Finding one can take a while, depending on your share of all the mining on the network.
When can I spend mined coins?
After 60 blocks, about two hours. In the meantime they show in Transactions as Mined.
Nodes and the network
Do I need to run my own node?
The COIN Wallet runs one for you, automatically. If a computer can't, the wallet can connect to a remote node instead, which saves disk space and sync time.
A remote node never learns your keys, but it can see your IP address and the payments you send through it. Your own node removes that trust. Remote nodes »
Which ports does Coin use?
TCP 38880 for talking to other nodes, which you can open to help the network, and TCP 38881 for your wallet to talk to your node, which you should keep closed. Ports »
How much disk space does the blockchain need?
It grows over time as blocks are added. To keep a smaller copy, turn on Prune blockchain. A pruned node still checks every block. More »
Troubleshooting
My wallet seems stuck syncing
Make sure you're online and that your firewall lets the wallet's node connect. The first sync downloads and checks the whole blockchain, so give it time. If it really has stopped, close the wallet and open it again.
Mining won't start
Your node must be fully synced first: wait for the wallet to say Connected. Mining also needs the wallet's own node, so it isn't available while you're using a remote node.
A payment hasn't shown up
Check that your wallet is synced and that the sender used the right address. If it still hasn't appeared, ask for the transaction ID and enter it under Settings > Wallet > Scan transaction. On a remote node, this shows that node the transaction ID.
My balance looks wrong
After restoring a wallet, this almost always means the restore height is too high. Open Settings > Info, change the restore height to 0 and let the wallet scan again. More »
My antivirus flagged the wallet
Some antivirus programs flag any software that can mine. Check the download's hash against the published one first. What to do »
