Install COIN on Linux
The Linux release has the node and the command-line wallet. A handful of commands and you're on the network.
-
Download the Linux release
On the Download page, press Download for Linux, and note the SHA-256 hash published with it.
-
Check the file
$ sha256sum FILEReplace FILE with the file's name and compare the result with the published hash. They must match exactly.
-
Unpack it
$ tar -xf FILEThen
cdinto the folder it creates. -
Start the node
$ ./coindIt connects to the network and downloads the blockchain. To keep it running in the background instead, start it with
./coind --detachand check on it any time with./coind status. -
Create a wallet
In a second terminal, start the command-line wallet from the same folder. It asks for a name for your wallet file, a password and a language, then shows your 25 words. Write them on paper before you go any further.
Type
addressto see the address to give people, andhelpfor everything else.
Let other nodes reach you
Your node works fine with outgoing connections alone. To help new nodes join, allow incoming connections on the peer-to-peer port:
$ sudo ufw allow 38880/tcpNever open port 38881. It's your node's private control port.
Next
- Send and receive, with the commands for each step.
- Start mining from the node or the wallet.
- Run the node as a service, so it starts with the computer.
